The Power of Vision

To tell you the truth, I felt that the “Power of Vision” was a poorly constructed educational video. I have read 2 books on visions and how to accomplish reaching them. Why? Because VISION is actually an interesting topic, and a great motivator especially when we are all at the latter stages of our lives. Creativity therefore is needed into making a video on such an important topic.

To make the video better, they should have used a series of successful people who had a vision, and presented how they made it happen in reality. Humans are naturally more attentive to images, and the image of someone lunging starfish in the ocean compounded with a hidden voice in the background is not very interesting.

However, overall the same message was clear from the books and the video: a vision must be acted in order to make it a reality!

My top 3 visions upon graduation are:

1. Become owner on a series of small-medium sized multinational companies
To do this, I will utilize all the skills I obtained through business school. I will start off in Tanzania and maximize the potential of the factory my family owns there. With my degree in accounting, I will be in charge on inventory and cash flow to minimize costs. My first task is to learn Swahili which I currently am taking the effort to do.

2. By the age of 40, I will make a salary of at least $500,000.00
This may sound like too much, but this is the vision I have for myself. I know it is inevitable to start off with an entry level position especially in my career choice, but I am not only including my employee wage into this. For every paycheck I get, I will invest 10% into projects such as real estate, my “international business” and other potential profitable ventures. Stock market is iffy since it is unpredictable.

3. By the age of 25, I will already own a house
I will not rent like most people do when they graduate. I will milk as much time as I can living with my parents and use the money I saved to invest in a small house. Many people are in a rush to be independent and I feel that these people are in a rush to get into debt.

These are not hopes for me- they are visions that I am making a big effort to turn into reality. Nothing will stop me into achieving what I desire for it is action that creates reality!

  1. Although all your visions are well thought out and co-related in some way the one i would support the most is own a house by the age of 25. This personal vision plan will naturally push you to do the first two unconsciously. In the U.S. the highest living cost is lodging, you can eat less at restaurants, buy less consumer products, but you always need a roof over your head. After 30 years of paying rent, the apartment or house is still the landlords. So essentially, you are the sucker helping them pay their mortgage. Furthermore, owning a house at a young age will motivate you to work harder at your other two visions. It also forces you to save and pay off the house, in essence your building equity, because in the long run real estate does not depreciate.

  2. You are 100% right stay home with the folks as long as you can. In the long run investing in real estate is the smart route to go, instead of throwing money away at rent.

  3. Yes the video was cheesy, however it's message seemed to be impactful. I disagree with what you said about $500,000 being too much at the age of 40. I feel that higher you set your goals, then there will only be a limit as to how far you can fall from them. So I think you should even aim for more.

  4. It is true that owning a house is very important, because it is not only a good investment, but it also brings you a feeling of safety. About the $500,000 salary, I think if you have your own business in the future, an earning of $500,000 will not be very difficult to achieve.

  5. I definitly agree that the video could have been better, especially since the topic is so important and inspirational. Also, I think your first goal, and starting in Tanzania, is very interesting. The idea of starting in a differenct country is scary to say the least, and I really hope it works out for you. The $500,000 sounds a bit much, but I also hope that works out for you!

  6. ...I read many blogs on our recent assignment. Yours sounds very specific and precise. I don't know you personally, but reading what you wrote makes me think that you are very strong, dedicated, and goal-oriented person. I admire how you, to make one of your visions come true decided to learn not just any foreign language like: french, spanish, italian...but Swahili. I think it is very distinctive and indicative decision. I truly believe that all of your visions will come true!!! ;)
